The Yakama Nation originally occupied the yellow portion of the map and the green portion is the reservation they currently live on. Originally the Yakama Nation was 14 different tribes, all these tribes joined together to form the Yakama Nation as part of the Treaty of 1855. The Tribes that formed the Yakama Nation were the Palouse, Pisquose, Yakama, Wenatchapam, , Sk'in-pah, Kah-miltpah, Klickitat, Wish ham , See ap Cat, Li ay was and Shyiks Klinquit, Oche Chotes, Kow way saye ee. Before they formed the Yakama Nation, Yakama was also a tribe. The word Yakama may be an English mispronunciation of the Yakama’s word for runaway or family. The Yakama originally called themselves the Waptailmim which means people of the narrow river.
